OpenAI has officially launched its “age prediction” feature for ChatGPT. The system analyzes behavioral signals, ranging from profile data to account longevity and time of usage, to independently estimate a user’s age.
Users identified as minors will be subject to mandatory content filters. The AI will block conversations related to:
- Violence and graphic content
- Challenges promoting risky behavior
- Sexual, romantic, or violent roleplay
- Self-harm
- Extreme beauty standards and body shaming
If the AI incorrectly flags a user as a minor, the user must prove their age by submitting a selfie to OpenAI’s identity verification partner, Persona.
OpenAI states that when they possess incomplete information or are unsure of a user’s age, they will “default to a safer experience.” This update complements the Parental Control features introduced in Autumn 2025.
