Apple halts AI Safari revamp to prioritize Siri and Gemini integration

Apple is reportedly changing its AI strategy, putting its proprietary “World Knowledge” project for Safari on hold. The company is reallocating engineering resources to focus on a critical overhaul of Siri instead of competing directly with new search engines.

The new plan involves deeply integrating Google’s Gemini models into Siri and core system apps, abandoning the previous strategy of building standalone chatbots for services like Apple TV. As part of this pivot, planned AI features for the Health app have also been scrapped and returned to early development.

Apple aims to fast-track these changes, with reports suggesting the updated, Gemini-powered Siri could be announced as early as February 2026.
