After months of design and testing, Reddit user wewillmakeitnow has successfully built a fully working PlayStation 4 Slim in a handheld form factor.
The project involved trimming the physical dimensions of an original PS4 Slim motherboard without compromising functionality. The modder redesigned the cooling system and integrated an ESP32 microcontroller with custom software to monitor temperature and power consumption.
Key Specifications
- Display: 7-inch OLED matrix with 1080p resolution.
- Connectivity: Retains HDMI output for TV connection; adds 3 USB-C ports for charging and peripherals.
- Power: Powered by six 21700 standard batteries (6000 mAh each), totaling 130Wh.
- Battery Life: Approximately 3 hours at 44W or 1.5 hours at 88W.
The hardware is housed in a custom 3D-printed ABS plastic case with fully functional buttons and sticks. While portable, it is substantial—measuring 5.6 cm in thickness and weighing nearly 1.5 kg.
The creator has stated this was developed out of personal curiosity and there are no plans to sell the device.
