Apple has officially unveiled and started selling the second-generation AirTag. The device features significant hardware upgrades while maintaining the original $29 price point.
Key technical improvements
- New Ultra-wideband chip. Leveraging the same technology found in the iPhone 17, the new chip extends the range of Precision Finding by up to 50% and supports Apple Watch Series 9 and later.
- Audio and connectivity. The onboard speaker is now 50% louder for easier detection, and an updated Bluetooth module expands the general search range.
- Privacy and security. Apple reiterated its commitment to user safety. The new AirTag includes robust anti-stalking measures, such as cross-platform alerts and dynamic Bluetooth identifiers, ensuring the device cannot be used for unwanted tracking.
The new AirTag is available for purchase now for $29.
