WhatsApp explores paid subscription for ad-free experience

Meta appears to be preparing a paid subscription option for WhatsApp users who wish to opt out of advertising.

Following tests of ads in Channels and Status updates earlier in 2025, code discovered in the WhatsApp for Android beta (version 2.26.3.9) references a subscription service designed specifically to disable these ads.

According to findings by Android Authority, the app code contains specific strings regarding subscription management. One message notes that changing user age settings could impact subscription validity, suggesting strict compliance measures are being built alongside the payment gateway.

Meta has not yet officially announced the feature or potential pricing, but the technical evidence points toward a new monetization strategy for the messenger.
