New privacy feature in iOS 26.3 blocks precise carrier location

Apple has announced a significant privacy update arriving in iOS 26.3. According to a new support document, users will soon have the ability to restrict mobile operators from determining their precise geolocation using cell towers.

When enabled, the feature significantly reduces the accuracy of the location data visible to the carrier, while ensuring that signal quality and connectivity remain at standard levels.

This capability is tied to Apple’s proprietary modem technology and will only be available on the following devices:

  • iPhone Air
  • iPhone 16e
  • iPad Pro (M5) Wi-Fi + Cellular

At launch, the feature is limited to select carriers globally:

  • USA (Boost Mobile)
  • UK (EE, BT)
  • Germany (Telekom)
  • Thailand (AIS, True)

The option will be located in the “Cellular” section of the System Settings once the update is released.
