Google has agreed to pay $68 million to resolve a class-action lawsuit alleging it recorded users’ private conversations without consent. The issue centered on “false accepts,” where Google Assistant activated mistakenly, allowing human reviewers to access sensitive audio.
Under the proposed settlement, individuals who purchased Google Assistant-enabled devices like Pixel smartphones, Google Home, or Nest speakers after 2016 may be eligible for compensation. Payouts are expected to range from $18 to $56 per person, pending final court approval.
