According to a new report from Forbes, OpenAI is developing its own social media platform with a specific goal: eliminating the bot crisis.
To distinguish humans from AI agents, the platform plans to utilize strict biometric verification. Users would verify their identity through Apple’s Face ID or the Orb—the iris-scanning device from Sam Altman’s other startup, World.
The project is currently in the early stages with a team of fewer than 10 people. Beyond identity verification, the platform may feature integrated AI tools for content creation, such as the video generator Sora.
Sam Altman has frequently criticized current social networks for being overrun by LLM-powered bots. Critics, however, have noted the irony, pointing out that ChatGPT provided the very technology that made the current wave of spam bots possible.
