Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella confirmed a major milestone during the company’s fiscal Q2 2026 earnings call: Windows 11 is now used by over 1 billion people. This figure represents a 45% increase compared to the same time last year.
“Windows has reached a significant milestone: 1 billion Windows 11 users,” Nadella stated.
The operating system achieved this result in 1,576 days following its launch on October 5, 2021. For comparison, it took Windows 10 approximately 1,706 days to reach the same threshold. The accelerated adoption rate in recent months is primarily attributed to Microsoft officially ending support for Windows 10, compelling a faster migration to the current OS.
