While Apple recently made headlines for its deal with Google, new reports indicate the company relies heavily on a different player for its own business operations.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in an interview with TBPN, Apple “effectively works on Anthropic.” The company uses private versions of Claude hosted on Apple servers to power internal tools and product development workflows.
Gurman revealed that Apple initially explored integrating Anthropic’s technology directly into iOS for consumer features. However, the partnership fell through due to Anthropic’s financial demands. The AI firm reportedly asked for several billion dollars annually, with a stipulation that the price would double every year for three years.
Faced with these escalating costs, Apple opted to partner with Google for its user-facing AI features while maintaining Anthropic as a core engine for its internal operations.
