Digital Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives to be cheaper than physical copies

Nintendo of America has announced changes to its pricing policy, setting different price points for games based on format. Under this new structure, digital copies of exclusive titles will be priced lower than their physical cartridge counterparts.

These new rules take effect in May. Under the changes, the digital edition of the platformer Yoshi and the Mysterious Book (for which pre-orders opened on March 25) will cost consumers $60, while the physical edition will be priced at $70. Nintendo stated that this decision reflects the inherent difference in costs associated with manufacturing and distributing physical copies.

Despite this change, retailers retain the right to independently set final pricing for the products. According to VGC, this approach is already being utilized in the UK market. This announcement arrives amidst news that Nintendo is reducing Switch 2 production by approximately 30%, following sales figures for the final quarter of 2025 that fell short of company expectations.
